I haven't posted in awhile, but many of you regular readers are familiar with the challenges I have been facing this year in my PTO. I have struggled with the decision of quitting the board or not, and my DH has quit because of the pres.
Well, last night was our first meeting since Nov. and I am thrilled to report that I was able to get a rudimentary budget written last night. I did it assertively, but without being pushy (I"m taking the catch more flies with honey advice you all have given me)and the principal jumped right in and supported me. She usually is very wishy washy, but she was totally different last night and I was so impressed. I am satisfied with our budget, and everyone else seems to be too, except the pres, but that is ok.
My DH offerred to babysit last night, since he wants nothing more to do with the pres, but the principal brought her son and his friends along to watch the kids and she insisted that she wanted my DH to attend the meeting, which he did. I am just so thrilled and overwhelmed by this woman, she was like a totally different person, assertive and sensible. It was great!
My next goal is to get actual elections this spring for next year, which will be tough, I think because we have never had them. Whoever wants a position just steps in. I cannot work another year with the current pres, so I think I am out if she wants another term. Our parental involvement is very very low, so I am afraid no one will step up for a board position. Nearly everyone has turned their back on PTO. So if anyone has advice on how and when to bring up elections, and how to get parents more involved in this process, please do let me know.
I also want to get some bylaws written. We have no rules, and I found out last night that the rest of the board is not following the financial protocols we had agreed to at the beginning of this year. I let it go because no money is missing, but I did let it be known that EVERYTHING on the financial report needs to be explained. So I am thinking I will bring up writing bylaws at the end of this year, for next year. Any advice on this would also be appreciated.
Thanks for reading--those of you who have been following my frustrating year know what a big thing this is for me
