problems within the board

Is it that hard to go to the bank and ask for your account information? Yeah, the books would be nice to have and you do what you feel right to do there...but wouldn't that help to know if there is something fishy going on?

Okay... I'm having a hard time with the notion that the President is "the only one" that can set dates etc with the Principal. I honestly think I would have been a nightmare for some of you as I had the time so I would make the calls or schedule events etc. Often I played the role of Communicator for our PTO. Most of the time I was the Secretary. If she wants to take notes, fine, but the Secretary is the "Offical" reporter of the minutes....also that is a tough skill/talent/what have you to just be able to do. If your VP is willing to share and/or compair notes, cool.

I hope you can see, I have a hard time with "that's mine" and work better with "if you can do that, cool..."

For our events we had to pre plan them and then I(pres) sat down with the Principal and went over the calendar once we were all set with dates. I'm surprised too that she sat down with her our calendar of events can only be submitted by the pres. For most of our events its pretty much the same time as the previous year so parents know whats coming anyways so there isnt much change. Except we added one more event the Movie Night and a Safety Program.
I would just give her specific jobs to do it sounds like she wants to help, but not sure where or what to do.

Along this same line, we have a treasurer from last year's board who was continuing on this year. We are having trouble getting a current balance, much less getting a look at the books. We have not had a balance sheet that was correct presented to us so we can proceede with activites that are starting right a way. We also have yet to have the handbook turned over to us from last year. This handbook travels from pres. to pres. The principal says to be patient, the last board is having trouble relinquishing their duties! Any diplomatic ideas? Time is running out and we need to know some specifics! Thank You!

Thank you so much for all the advise! I've got her in charge of something big she wants to do and I'm setting up a meeting to talk to the Principal about who she needs to set dates with (me - not the VP).

My first thought was the same as Pals. I am suprised the principal was seeting dates with her, unless she was presenting herself to him as if you sent her to set the dates. So my first reaction would be to tell the principal that she is overstepping her bounds and is not authorized to schedule dates with him and that he needs to confer with only you.

Then as the others posted...give her specific tasks to do the keep her busy with her own work.

I am a little confused that your principal woudl even do this without contacting you first, seems like the President should be the main direct line to the principal/school. I would discuss that with your principal and mybe the next time it happens your principal could say we need the president here for this discussion. Does your bylaws have a job description? maybe that needs to be looked at, ours state that the president is to meet with the principal once a month. If that doesn't work find a real busy project for your new vp that she can put her heart into, maybe she doesn't realize how anxiuos she is and needs to be cooled down a little without turning her off. Make her feel she is needed for a project and how important that is=) Good luck
