We have given our teachers a sum to use for extra supplies and learning materials for their classrooms for many years now. We've always done it as a single amount per teacher, but this past year began discussing the possiblilty of changing to a "dollar amount per student" instead. Our thinking is that it is a more equitable way of distributing the funds since each class has a different amount of students and it isn't really fair that a teacher with 18 students gets the same amount as a teacher with 26. We would then provide a flat amount for teachers that service the entire student population.
Does anyone use this method? Pros and cons? Suggestions on how to make it work?
