I have a similar problem. We have a lady on our PTO that is like that. She is a jerk. She wants everything her way and this year it is not going the way she wants it. So now she is talking about running for the presidents position in april. Hardly anyone likes her. I would love to get rid of her but if she gets elected as president she will be impossible to deal with. She also doesn't care about anyone's feelings. I need help......
I want to thank everyone for their advice. Out-of-the-blue she quit. She told the president she was beginning to think some of our problems might be because of her. Imagine that......why, or how, could she have not known that before. You can't imagine the response our PTO has got since different ones in the school of gotten wind of her quitting. It is unbelievable. Thanks again! We're on our way to new beginnings.
We are actualy a brand new PTO so we have not faced the problem yet exactly.
Your first step is to grab your by laws and find out what it says.
If your By Laws does not state that you have the ability you may want to
make a motion to ammend your by laws to include wording like we have.
Here is what out By Laws says:
Section 4.09. Removal. Any Director may be removed at any time, with or
without cause, by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of Directors of the Board
other than the Director sought to be removed. If a Director fails to perform
his or her duties under this Code of Regulations, including by reason of
failing to regularly attend Board meetings or otherwise, the President shall
at the next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board bring before it a
proposed resolution for the removal of such Director. At least ten (10) days
prior to any vote on the removal of any Director, that Director shall
receive written notice from the President stating the reason(s) for his or
her proposed removal from the Board. Removal shall be effective at such
time as shall be specified in the resolution adopted by the Board.
If this person is a board apointed committee person then just make a motion
at the board meeting (not members meeting) that she be removed from her
position because you feel that to board is moving in a direction that is
being hindered by her position on the committee.
Remember Directors and Officers on a board are elected by the membership of
the PTO that serve on the Board.
Committee members are apointed by the board to do a perticular task.
One more sugestion. If you do make a motion to remove her MAKE SURE YOU HAVE
TO VOTES to have it pass before you make the motion. If you do not have the
votes then it could end up that the motion does not pass and your life would
become a living hell. It would be good for the others on the board because
she would not be after them any more but you will have all kinds of fun
trying to dodge her.

I have just gone thru somthing like this. We had a board member that had basicly the same aditude. the board wanted her out. Me being the polly Anna President kept them from booting her because I thought there were redeaming qualities. I ended up loosing my "right hand" over it (she resigned) Just last week our problem resigned and our board is already livening up again.
Bottom line I wish I was right about our "problem" but I was not therefore I should have let the board do what they felt was right in the beginning. The Board is the elected body that is charged with doing what is in the best intrest of the PTO and school. If this person is causing the elected officials to consider quiting then she needs to go.

But, this problem of ours has been in the PTO for 8 years and thinks she knows everything and would never step down because she doesn't feel the problem is her. How do we resolve that. Can we (the officers or other board members) vote her out? Do we have the right legally?
