OK, first question- this is a list of adresses that we know are correct and that have given donations or we have talked to a company rep. Second questions--yes, they really will give you stuff if they feel that what you are raising money for is legitimate and they can fit it in to their budget. Third question--I have e-mailed customer services of businesses I want a donation from and they have given me a response or told me where to send a letter. You can also get addresses from the websites. Fourth question-- Look in this section of the board under sample business donation letter and ask them to send you the letter they have and adapt it for your needs. Fifth question--we are going to do a silent auction with baskets, bingo and a raffle. You would probably be able to do the silent auction and there are many posts on that subject in this section. Sixth question--The addresses that are marked incorrect are ones that someone has mailed to and gotten a wrong address reply. they are posted so that people will know that they are wrong and if anyone has the right address they can post it. I hope that helps you get unconfused. This is my first year of going national and I have had a decent response. Just remember that most companies take at least 4 to 6 weeks to respond. Good Luck!!!!

I'm new here AND to fundraising! My oldest is in 1st grade & Dummie-me--I decided to convince my school they needed a Fundraising Committee! Yup! I got elected!

So I am looking through all the posts & I'm intrigued but also confused. I have some questions:
1. What is this donation list all about?
2. Do people/companies really just GIVE you stuff?
3. How do you go about asking? Is there a form letter somewhere?
4. What do you do with the items? (Our school board doesn't allow raffles)
5. What is the purpose of all the addresses that are marked as incorrect?

Thank you for helping me understand!

I have gotten so much from this site, I felt obligated to give something back. These are just a few companies that we sent letters to. We have not yet heard from some.

Generally, all donation requests must be submitted on organizational letterhead by mail or fax. I have included our Tax ID # as a part of the contact information on our letterhead because many companies will not donate unless they have it.

Also, some companies accept donation requests year round. However, others have very specific timelines that you must follow. So before submitting a request, it wouldn't hurt to call or send an e-mail (if possible) to ask about any deadlines.

Well, here is my partial list. I will update it, as I get more responses and find more contacts. Thank you all!
