Holland - could you provide more information about the calendars. $10,000 net or gross? What type of calendar?
We've investigated that idea a couple of times and the profit margin would have only been 2 or 3 dollars. We hadn't found that people are willing to spend that much on calendars - maybe $10 max. And they won't usually buy more than one per family.
What did you charge? Even if you are talking net sales, if it was a $10 calendar, that's 1000 units.
We are thinking about a different sort of fundraiser for next year. No products, catalogs.
Looking for a bigger $ per volunteer hour.
Commissions from travel sales. Have any of you heard anything about this type of fundraiser?
How we were told it works is if you buy your travel online (like Orbitz, travelocity, etc) you can use a different website and receive upto 75% of the available commission for your group. No one has to do any selling! I really that part. If there are parents who do business travel, they can use this and make a big difference for the group.
You can contact your local Applebees' and they can put you in touch with their marketing person about holding a spirit night at their restaurant and you receive either 15% or 20%. Chick-Fil-A and Uno's Pizzeria also let schools hold spirit nights with a percentage of sales going to the school.
