We had a great carnival this year. This is the first time we have held it on a school night. This really did not seem to affect our attendance. A local band came and played and really added a lot to the carnival.
As it was from 5:30 to 8:00 pm a lot of the carnival was set up in the gym. This year a parent made dividers to separate the games. This made it a lot more organized and helped the control of traffic. They are made from PVC pipe and cloth so they can be taken apart and stored compactly.
We had games for all ages and all ages played: a cake walk, hay ride, pumpkin patch (kids decorated paper plates to look like pumpkins or scarecrows), face painting, farmer’s fortune (players dig in a barrel of corn for coins, this is very messy so put it where clean-up is easy), pie eating races (whipped cream on paper plates), sack races, hula hoop contest, fishing booth (gave out individually wrapped snacks which cuts down on the amount of candy “won” and can be sent to school as snacks), dart the balloon (put a piece of candy in each balloon and a prize ticket in a few then they get what they “pop”), face painting, blow up slide, concessions booth, door prize booth, basketball toss, ring toss (with 2L bottles as posts and prizes), tic-tac-toe game, and duck pond.
Also our community Crime Watchers came out and set up a booth and gave out internet safety information and goodies.
