If this isn't obbsession, I don't know what is!!! I invited my mother and brother to come and stay until Thanksgiving because I was in despatate need of some volunteers. I made them work the entire time they were here. My poor mother won't come to visit in the fall anymore. Can't figure out why.........mmmmmmm!!!!

My best example of PTO-obsession comes from several years ago, when I was just "starting out".

I was co-chair of our 1st Fundraising Auction and my job included preparing the item catalog (among other things). I was under the gun to get everything finished before my 3rd baby arrived.

I printed the final version of the catalog off my home computer while I was timing my contractions - about 6 hours before my son was born.

And, not to miss out, my husband & I had our first night out after our baby was born at--you guessed it-- the auction 5 days later!

I found this awhile ago, when I too walked into my house and thought a hurricane had hit and couldn't remember what the kitchen counter looked like. I printed it out and it hangs on my refridgerator.....

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
to paint a picture, write a letter
bake a cake, or plant a seed
ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must, but there is not much time
with rivers to swim and mountains to climb
music to hear and books to read
friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
a flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
this day will not come round again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go, as go you must
You, yourself, will make more dust!

Metzy, Can I borrow your hubby? Just kidding, mine does cook and wash dishes, I'll keep him around for a while.

When I was president I had to have a lapoproscy(still can't spell it) and the next week my husband had to have back surgery because of ruptured discs. I was going to cancel my lap but he wouldn't hear of it because I'd been having so much problems and my dr. was finally acknowleging it. This was also my first semester in college. So the day before he goes in, 6 days after my lap I go to get things tidied up. I nearly passed out by the time I left I was so weak. The school sec was about to skin me alive. My VP had quit on me about the time of Fall Festival, two weeks before. So day 3 that my hubby was in the hospital was the meeting 40+ miles away. I found someone to stay with him and took off to my meeting. There was a hellacious storm. I could barely keep my vehicle on the road because of the winds and the rain was horrid. That night I got a new vp but popcorn day was the next day. She didn't show up for that but I did find some dedicated volunteers to do that for me. I was ready to come and they talked me out of it. I think mykidsmom has a better story than that one.

One year I logged in over 70 volunteer hours in October. Last year I got my head chopped off in the haunted house. My oldest had chicken pox. My youngest came through the haunted house with my husband, who is probably a bigger chicken than the kids. My "never clingy could care less where mom is son" never left my side the rest of the weekend.

We also had our first Spring Fling in years. My oldest had a severe ear ache. I had already had him to the dr. twice with it, my youngest swore his knee was going to fall off, of course that was after he found out brother was missing school. So I go down to the school and organize this thing. Work it until I have to take my son to the doc. The whole time I am wondering why I am there if my kids are not and I thought my volunteers were conspiring against me. Everytime I looked around they were whispering and would stop when I got near. Later I found out they were planning on ordering me a plaque and a manicure. It was also a bad time of the month form me, I was very on edge, I think everyone was ready to impeach me by the time I left.

Those are my best stories, this should be interesting.

My husband's favorite saying:

"Honey, you go save the world. I'll clean the house."

He says that anyone can clean a house, but not everyone can save the world...lol...

I know, it sounds corny, but I swear he says it!

Would love to hear more on this....

What's your best story about your parent group work maybe getting a bit out of hand?
