For those of you who start in late August/early September...
Does your first semester end at Christmas break? Many of our families would like a later start date, but the challenge then is how to manage two fairly even semesters with the first ending in December.
The arguments about carrying over to January are usually along 2 points...
1) It's not efficient for the kids to have a 2 week break and then come back for mid-terms.
2) Many high school students are now attending college classes. Some are graduating high school in December. The college first terms (at least here) end at winter break. If high school goes longer, those who graduate in December must wait until summer to start full time college.
South Central KY-We have 2 elementaries, 1 middle, and 1 high school on the same schedule. We got out May 27 it was only 1/2 day. We will start around August 1 and the first day is 1/2 day. The counties around us got out a week before us and they usually start a week or two after us. We are on an alternate schedule.
We are a southwest suburb of Chicago. Our last day is June 4th and we start up again on Aug. 23rd. All schools in our district follow the same schedule Elementary - High School.
We're in St. Louis Missouri. Most of our districts and private school had their last days last week . . .our district is the last to get out on June 8th. We usually start anywhere between the middle of August to around the 20 something of August.
We are VERY Hot and Humid in August and may school were not air conditioned but now that the majority of them are, the school year keeps starting earlier and earlier.
I know we were vacationing in Florida around the 16th of August last year and were told by resident there that the kids had been in school for a couple of weeks already?
