ABC did a story about Alabama "Spanking- Black and Blue" but it didnt give any contact info- It was about half and half for to against- 'cpet it did not that because it was an AL law- teachers were immune- so no lawyer would take the case- even though this kid would've been taken away from his mom if she paddled him that hard.

Sorry not much help

Back in the 60’s doctor Spock said, time outs work, don’t spank it harms a child’s psyche. 5 or 6 years ago, he recanted stating: (this is a paraphrasing of his words)
40-45% of kids time outs work
35-40% of kids need harsher discipline (not beatings) other than time outs
The rest, not much can be done with them.

This was his proof based on 30+ years of watching the social interactions of kids, meanwhile, parents raising children, have gotten their “rights” taken away from them to discipline children appropriately other than what is mandated by the “state”. Eg no spanking of children.

I feel that if parents at a young age, enforce discipline, as long as it isn’t physically harmful (ie bruises etc). Are taught, that words like “thank you” and “your welcome” with either Sir or Ma’am addressed, coupled with, strong role models in their lives, limited tv, music, and play station, these kids might actually amount to something.

I am not saying every parent is wrong, or even a majority, but there are many out there that know who they are, they come home, ignore their kids, offer no positive influences, and bash others for trying to get ahead, or “have it made” because they pursued better jobs, education etc . Where were they in the scheme of things while growing up…. I have insights into this Ie they didn’t try, didn’t have someone who cared, or didn’t care themselves.. maybe the knuckleheads beating kids instead of spanking need some insight and guidlines

pegmom, this is probably not helpful for your immediate needs, but it does strike me as ironic that the govt has recently handed to your shcool district also, a law about improving wellness in children.
clearly their focus was on the inside of the body and not the exterior, when they created the law, but its worth noting maybe to your school board, whcih should have included parents in the first place, in drawing up the wellness policy for your school. how on earth can a school board enact a wellness policy and still sleep at night, when bodily injury is condoned?

pegmom - have parents at your school or district staged a walk out or picket, some sort of indirect pressure to get the principal to STOP this activity from happneing on your shcool grounds immediately? the head of school surely has the power to ban the practice on moral or ethical grounds, regardless of the laws, i should think.

it is not understandable to me, that the parents in your district, would tolerate a principal that condones such activity (seeing that in many places where the practice is 'legal' it is NEVER used). what can they do if the parent body goes on strike for a week and homeschools at the local library? put them all in the county jail?

'the school boards and state boards of education are doing NOTHING to stop or prevent future injuries'
this is utterly unbelievable (but i do believe it)....maybe thats how their name originated,,,,school BOARDS. from olden times...dont know, maybe its worth a history search to see if theres a link, to make a nice semantic point or whatever the proper relation is.

good luck and thanks for standing up for kids and being a VOICE.
