there is a huge difference between discipline and abuse and the number of I give the opprotunity to cross that line with my child will be reduced to one...me.
I don't believe anyone in the prior posts have been as judgemental reference others opinions as you have been to the posters here. Your choice...but maybe that's why corporal punishment at the hands of others is something you support.
I live in NC and wholeheartedly support the right of teachers to discipline students, even with corporal punishment! However, there is a difference between discipline and abuse (unfortunately, I know that personally). Interesting, though, how you share this horrible-sounding story and I have not heard a word about it, especially considering the local news channels in my area look for anything negative they can possibley report!?
My home state (not mentioned because I don't want anybody getting any crazy ideas similar to ones mentioned on this board) protects the rights of teachers to discipline students. I was on the receiving end in high school on a couple of occasions and it was much more effective than in-house or out of school suspension!
By the way, anyone that calls ALL sorts of corporal punishment (at school or home) abuse has never been on the receiving end of true abuse
pegmom, have you made any headway in your local district,,,,or elsewhere?? did the pc in the news help your cause locally? did your principal see it, and the school board?
good luck!!!
OK, Peg. I can definitely see your positive perspective. For as long and as hard as you've worked, exposure on a major network news show is a very big deal! You should be very proud of the work you do and for the national attention this cause is finally getting. As a parent I personally thank you for that. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!!
