All staff at our schools have e-mail, their first initial, last name@ our school.com.
They each have a voice mail and at least, at the preK-5 grade levels, the teachers give their home numbers and/or call numbers in their first newsletter of the year.
Our PTA has had voice mail for two years and we just got our e-mail addy using the school.
our school has a web site, and under 'staff', it lists the email (with link, all you do is click on the person's photo and voila!) of every single staff person at school
E-mail, voice mail, and some even give their cell number when your child is in play practice and can't bring their phones.
There is a policy that parents are not able to call into a class during the day but can leave a message.
The beginning of the year a phone list is sent home with everyone's exts. and e-mail addresses. Nice to have and even better when spelled right! HA!
I like e-mail because of the ablitiy to copy others and keep track of issues etc.
In our district, each teacher has a direct line. The couple of times I've used it, they have called me back.
I'm more for using the email. That way, if it is a question they can't answer, they forward it! It also allows me to tell the same message to all the teachers working on a project. I get great communication from all the levels from top administration down to the lunch people! It's great because it's now in written form too.
