serendipity and grace - well you are lucky again, around here even the media angle doesnt work, and not even when actions get reported to police (serious school-related stuff, i am not talking PTO business) seems in small towns everyone knows the sherriff and the editor of the local paper, and going to the media is a sure BACKFIRE and they will either not print, or twist it to wht the admin wants out there, or make you (the reporting person) look like to be a crazy --- cuz they are in social cahoots, the admin and the paper, there really is NO solution when its a small incestusous, you scratch by back i'll scratch yours, school town....so my solution is, just get a good teahcer every year, go to the teacher for fix it stuff (fortunately we have good teachers, just bad admin) forget about the admin altogether,,,,,and write a book about my experiences of being ignored bullied and harrassed.

Trick... I would have to say in my neck of the woods they are reactive, not proactive. In the case of this woman...even though she is a PITA, she is no dummy and she new the laws and she would have gone after them if they did not fix it, and they knew it so she had them backed into a corner. As for other issues... I have only seem them react and change something if a large group of parents attended meetings and screamed "holy hell". The last issue that actually was addressed and fixed was a process. They tried to sweet talk this group of parents who were just not buying it. They started going to the local press and distributing flyers around town and then suddenly they were able to fix the problem. It was pretty interesting to watch them start out saying they were sorry and they knew it was not the best situation, but there was nothing they could do. Then suddenly when the local media showed up with the parents at a meeting suddenly & miraculously they were able to find a solution.

Gracie...You are absolutely right! If they think they can get away with it they will sure as heck try.

Why can't people do their jobs...here i go again?
If they can get away with stuff.,they will....vouchers,vouchers vouchers
If this was big corporation [which when you think of how much of OUR money they handle.....]
we could drive them out of business, quite possibly .They want you to go away;they've evn offered to move my son if I had complaints.

well she sure is lucky to have your BOE respond positively. out here in the back country whre i live, our BOE seems to ignore parental requests, even when the law is seemingl on their side....they know all the tricks, teh admin and BOE and push the limit with an i dont care attitude and 'so sue us' (or file a compliant with the state dept of ed and THEN we will do somethign only if THEY tell us to).you seem to have a proactive or at least, reactive BOE. you should feel lucky. i envy your school!!!

Hi Trick! I do not disagree with you about this parent. She is one of those people who is always screaming about something and is quite nasty to boot. However, being that we experienced this I just wanted to post it. She had the law on her side because this aide was only put in that class for her child and technically the BOE could not use this aide as a classroom aide. So while many of these parents may not mind and not think anything of it, the ones that do can cry foul and stop them from using that aide to help out with other kids in the classroom.

sounds like that parent is a bully. most special needs children that are stream or mainlined whatever they call it (ie NOT put in special ed schools) are usually very MILDLY disabled...thats what allows them to be in a regular classrm in the first place,,,and do NOT NEED a full time teacher,,,,i should think any parent worthy of being a caring parent, with empathy and reason, can expect that an extra aide WILL be used to some degree, also for other children. OTHERWISE that kid should go to a special school. entitled-feeling parents breed entitled feeling kids, aka adult bullies beget children that often grow up to be adult bullies themselves.
