I agree; when i am at my student's school now i feel nauseous. There is a lutheren school I am considering.....Although the district is building a brand new school 1 1/2 miles away and i don't get a bus anyway!...should i be a pain in the a** an put in for school of choice but not go to either?? I wonder if at this point they could keep me out of the new school if it is under enrolled.I've really just had it w/ the district anyway......
grace c -- do you have a schhool that is DEFINITELY better than your current one , to go to? the devil you is better than the devil you dont know. make sure you do your research, interview the principal and teachers, and make sure they CARE about the kids and not just the adults/politics/nclb blah blah and jsut making the grade. elem school is more about govt and programs and money than about education. imo.
well, OK , i admit, ONCE i saw about 8 non officers attend. never more. once i saw about 4, and i was one of them , so that means between 3 and 8 is our turnout, plus the 4 officers, and the principal. why they dont meet at dunkin donuts or the local pub instead of schoool grounds (many meetings are in the evening, so MORE can attend ha ha ha that gets em 2 more out of 1000 parents), i dont know. they should . they would have more fun.
oh YES me too, definitely, kept on fieldtripping and doing my things on the side for the shcool , helping the staff taht iwanted to help, donating directly to where it was needed, and AVOIDING having to ask mrs president PTO and her committee ladies if xyz was OK. ijust asked staff directly and do you know WHAT??? the staff LOVES it when parents bypass the pto. i wonder why. if they really want more help from parents they need to treat the parents as adults and not as kids, the PTO leadership. thats what ive learned, the meetings are for chit chat and socialllizgn and maintaining buddies. they are not for business. no one can influence their agenda, they have their ideas, if you fit with their ideas, they will allow you in teh sisterhood, if you are different from them, they ostracize you. no wonder the same 5 people go to all meetings. out of 1000 parents, thats what i call LOW TURNOUT or apathy.
I had stopped going a long time ago because I lost interest in the school in general but went(going on) field trips etc;if it directly involved or benfits my child.I donated things PTO asked for as much as possible ,but the meetings were nowheresville.
