Against the administrator?? No you should be working as a team, yes there will be times you may not agree but that is when you sit down, communicate and come up with the middle ground. I believe that any group trying to work against the principal is only in for a lot of headache and heartache. Part of our mission statement is to support the school district and work together.
Yes there are some schools that the principal have have alot of control and without knowing the schools I wont comment on that, I will say when it was going on in our school it totally turned things around for parent involvement and once that started getting built up then the principal let loose...still supports us but let loose!

Whoa! PTO's should not work against the administration or the principal. Speaking from the parochial school aspect, remember that the principal is doing this work out of love of education and your children - otherwise he/she would be at a school that could pay better! The PTO should help the school with "extras" that a parochial school's budget don't allow for and to assist teachers, parents and students. PTO's don't exist to cause friction in the school.
My understanding of the traditional roll of a PTO is to be "the voice of the people" working with and (when necessary) against the administration of the school....
It seems that in some schools the Principal actually takes control of the PTO; obviously in conflict with my understanding....
Can anyone confirm my understanding????
Are there differing "traditions" for parochial schools???
