missymom3, you got it! Some people think of pto as a place to complain about school issues unrelated to pto. If they want to complain about a pto matter, then we listen. If not, we'd refer them to the principal. Use the chain of command. In order for BOE meetings to be kept on track, yes, you have to be on the agenda to speak and ask questions. If you have to, make an appointment to speak to the super. privately.
Good luck.
WHERE DID ALL OF YOU GET SO SMART. IV'E BEEN DOING PTO FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. AND I FEEL LIKE IM CLIMBING OUT OF THE PREMORTAL MUD EVERY TIME I GO TO THE BOARDS. IF A PARENT COMES TO A MEETING TO COMPLINE ABOUT A TEACHER-PRINCIPAL OUR PRINICPAL WILL TELL THAT PERSON THAT THEY CAN MEET LATER TO TALK.IV'E LUCKED OUT SO FAR ITS NOT HAPPENED ON MY SHIFT,AS PRES.IF YOU DON'T GET YOUR ANSWERS FOR THE PRINCIPAL GO TO THE SCHOOL BOARD. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE AGENDA OR YOU JUST BE WASTING YOURTIME.
If I had a rotten principal I would fight it as a individual...I would recommend that anyone who felt the same way to take it to the board as well. This is a touchy subject but I don't believe that having 67% of parents is the whole voice of your group. You can rally as a group of parents but keep your school's pto group out of it. If I felt as a president of the group that I could not be impartial in this matter I would probably step down, this is really no different than asking people to support your school budget...you can talk about it but not tell them how to vote. If this was at my school I would look at the school's shared decision making team, or site base team. They are more geared to making changes like this, you could go as an individual. I am concern that your group could greatly suffer since not all of your parents are against this person. Going against the administration in a small matter doesn't compare to what you are looking at doing.
