Question: School Splitting - How to Split PTO Funds
Our school has been a partial magnet for 3 years. Two thirds of the students come from neighborhoods around the school and the other one third are part of a district wide magnet. Funds have been raised from all families in the school, regardless of whether they were part of the magnet program. The neighborhoods around the school have now grown to the point that the school is at capacity. The magnet program is now being moved to a different school to Should the PTO at the current school keep all funds and assets for the benefit of the students remaining at the school? Or should some portion of assets be transferred with the magnet program to their new school?

Advice from PTO Today
Rose H writes:Hi there,
This is a tough one to answer without asking additional questions:
Will the PTO continue in its current form supporting the school -- moving forward with events, programs, etc. that have been scheduled?
Will the magnet program go to a school with an active PTO? How large of a program is it?
This scenario is something that is probably not addressed in your group's bylaws, but you should check to see if there is any guidance there.
