Advice from PTO Today

Our group doesn't have any formal induction, and in a lot of ways I like that. One of the frequent challenges faced by PTOs and PTAs is the impression that we think we're special or better than others or a clique. I suspect that things like induction ceremonies add to that. If you are going to have something formal, I'd (ironically) suggest making it as informal as you can. Parents are going to be attracted to a group that is down to earth and accessible. Shorter meetings. Less bureaucracy. Not sure this helps, but I'm just not a big fan of habits that elevate our leaders above other parents at the school.
