What are some good events that you don't have to put money into to have a blast at the event? Do you think it is necessary to have a orientation before you hold event at the school for the children?

Bingo is the first thing that comes to mind. You'll need to buy bingo cards, but those aren't expensive. Prizes could come from the dollar store or be donated by local businesses.

Just ask. For small businesses, it's usually best to go in with a specific donation in mind, and have a written request on letterhead ready. If you go to the "file exchange" section of this website, there are several sample donation letters there as well as some instructions on how to run a bingo night.
