Question: Addressing basic student needs
I'd like to know what you are doing to address basic student needs? Our school is 60% free and reduced lunch and we have a weekend food backpack program, but are brainstorming other ways to meet basic needs whether it's food or other needs. Suggestions? Of course, resources and funds must be a consideration.

We've heard of many school parent groups that donations of the basics: clothing, shoes, sneakers, coats, and toiletries. If a group is lucky enough, its school has space for it to set up a "store,'' where kids or families can come "shop" for free. Usually groups will work with teachers and the principal to identify families who might need help and set it up after school hours or at alternative times so folks can pick up supplies discretely.
