Question: Voting at General meetings

Our current PTO Pres. does not believe the members have a right or a say at General Meetings. She prefers only the Board do all voting on everything. Many members are not happy and turn out at meetings is low. What can we do?

Bylaws are usually pretty specific on this type of thing. They would outline how many members you need at a membership meeting in order to vote. Are you sure every meeting is a membership meeting? Maybe she thinks that members should just vote on bigger issues like the annual budget and elections, and only a couple of meetings a year are actually membership meetings, and other meetings are more working meetings for officers and maybe committee chairs (although interested members may still be welcome to go to those). That's not necessarily a bad thing. It kind of depends on what kinds of things people think they are being excluded from voting on.
