Advice from PTO Today
Rose H writes:Many groups wrestle with this issue, and our advice is don't sweat this one too much. Your group is about a lot more than just its meetings! But, some suggestions would be to change things up a bit-- maybe change the time and location of your meeting to make it a little more interesting. Also, keep meetings short and interactive. Lots of groups do go the prize and raffle route, too. This PTO Today article on boosting attendance has lots of good suggestions. Good luck!
Community Advice
C S writes:Yes, I agree with Rose C. In reading various articles , I have learned that not having a large audience participation is not a bad thing. For some reason, certain board members feel the need to associate audience numbers with success, and that just isn't true. Remember, your board meetings are business meetings. If your pto is proactive in reaching out to the families through regular communications, people won't feel the need to attend. Plus, we all know of the new parent who attends 1 meeting trying to force their personal agendas down the board's throat, completely disrupting the business meeting and veering everything off course.
