Question: Handing out Freebies/doorprizes

I got a bunch of magnets with our PTO info on them to give out to new members and a pen and car magnet and note pad, all with our school and PTO info on it to give out as doorprizes at our meeting. I know how much everyone loves getting things. Is this a goos idea to have our new members feel welcome and our old members feel appreciated?
