Question: voting members of EPO
Our by-laws currently require you to attend 6 events or meetings during the year in order to vote for the board. Essentially only 10 people with a school of over 500 kids could vote. Do you agree or disagree with this?

Craig writes:Disagree. We feel fairly strongly that the best practice is to make everyone who has a child in the school a voting member of the parent group. The best way to build involvement is to make people feel like they have a stake in the group. The best way to turn people off is to tell them that even though they've volunteered and attended meetings, they can't even vote. Having just a handful of people allowed to vote is a sure-fire way to create a reputation as a clique, which is devastating when you try to build involvement.
