Question: Donator want to charge

Someone donated Invitations for a Auction. Our school has announced that the building is going into foreclosure. Parents are trying to keep the school alive by looking for a new location however, we had to cancel the auction and now the person who donated the invitations is charging the PTO $500.00. Should we pay? Our President and Vice President have resigned because of the whole mess. Help

I agree with Tim, but is there something else of value you can offer the company? For instance, how about distributing a flyer or email to families in the school that says "As you know, our annual auction had to be canceled, but we would like to thank these generous companies that made donations." You could even include the company's logo and a brief description of what they do. You could also provide them with a thank-you letter for their overall support of the school -- something they could post in their store/office. That might ease the situation a bit.
