We've never done a theme, yet but I would love to do this next school yr. As it ends up ,I'm the only one planning & organizing our family fun night & book fair. I love the 50's theme idea. If you do hot dogs, use the slow cooker to keep the dogs warm. Even sloppy joes can be done this way. (done one too many hockey tournaments)Buffet style works great! Parents are more than willing to bring in food.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping to get donations of food items from parent volunteers. I'm not certain that I can get people to come in and do the grilling for so many staff members. Have you done this theme? How did you handle the food preparations?
Hello again -- it's time once again to think about another theme for Teacher and Staff Appreciation which is slated for the first week of May. We have moved to the high school level now, so there are more individuals (esp. men) to feed at a luncheon or buffet. The Garden Party Theme that we used last May was a big hit! Thanks to everyone who helped with ideas. I'm curious about the 50's flashback idea that was mentioned. Aside from the decorations, what might be served (in keeping with this theme) to a large group (~100)? These folks will come to the Teachers Lounge in staggered shifts during lunch? Any more great ideas out there to tie into a 50's theme?
We've brought meat/cheese platters from our local grocerey store along with rolls, mayo, mustard, & crackers. A few of us would bring in the desserts.
For a theme... go 'flash back to the 50's' You can hang up old records as decorations, have music playing, use the red checkered tablecloths.... Good luck & have fun!!!

I am wondering where to find all the dates for special days throughout the year for these events. Ex. Teacher Appr.Day, Volunteer week, things like this? I do remember seeing it once.
Thank you.
