Ultimate Donation List

Our schools auction is in May- I have ran it for 7 years and have gotten some good gift certificates in the mail from various places listed in this thread. But since we need many other items for the Chinese auction here is what we do- I start collecting items over the summer- typically we have a 1500.00 budget for this event. So after 4th of July I buy everything for a 4th of july basket when it goes 90% off, same with Halloween, thanksgiving and Christmas. Also at Christmas I am shopping for weeks after it when things start going 75-90 off- and not Christmas type things either, We were always good in Rite Aid- they had all heir gift items 90% off in the weeks following Christmas, slippers, jewelry boxes, toys etc. So all year round I am on the hunt for any items on closeout in stores and online. I also make sure I announce at all PTA meetings that if you get something for Christmas that you don't want we could use it! We had a lot of people who were teachers in other schools in our PTA and they were always good for donating a bunch of bath and body works products and things that they got from their students that they didn't want/couldn't use. Also the fundraising company that our school uses for that crappy wrapping paper sale and pie sale they do every year- we negotiate with them to throw in some baskets if we will sign with them for the next year- we have gotten up to 24 baskets of things from them. When we first started doing it the pres. of the PTA wanted to do a 150.00 budget and I pushed it up to 500- once she saw how much we raised she had no problem upping that budget to 1500 the next year- we typically raise about 13,000.00 each year.

I found that when I sent a self addressed stamped envelope I got a lot more donations than if I did not.

I signed up to do the volunteer tasks to attempt to meet the requirements almost 2 months ago and have heard nothing back!

I signed up and within a few hours was approved and posted an event- I posted an event a few months prior to our auction so we would get the tickets in time for the auction. You have to post an event where families can volunteer- you MUST include children volunteers or you will not get final approval. We had 75 volunteers and we got 20 one day park hopper tickets. They come 30-60 days after the event you had so make sure the event you use to earn the tickets is a few months prior to your auction. And make sure you take pictures because they require you to send in photographs.

you do an event a few months prior to your auction where you could earn the tickets- then you have them for your auction- you don't use your auction as the event to earn them. We just did one event and earned 20 tickets and we will use them in Dec for our auction.
