Millie, we also have a golf tournament coming up. I have received donations from Emergen-C (200 packets), Total Wine & More ($100 gift certificate), Arnold Palmer autographed photo to name a few. We have a sponsorship through our local Hooters (3 girls will help volunteer at the event, coupons and items for the goody bags) and Dixon Golf (They will come out to event for The Dixon Challenge, which is where they ask the golfers to pay $10 and shoot with their ball and a Dixon ball if they make it to the green in one shot with either ball, they get gift certificates and Dixon balls. They will come and set everything up and give you 20% of the proceeds. You also get 2 raffle prizes). I am waiting on responses from Golf Galaxy and Sports Authority for sponsorships. Also, go to your local golf shops, they will be more than happy to display flyers, posters and give coupons for the goody bags.

We are putting on a golf tournament for the first time. Very small group. Any suggestions for donated prizes and goody bags greatly appreciated.

We have let businesses know of trades. They are thrilled with the extra advertising. Any press they would have gotten from our auction, they have already gotten by auction day. So, if we trade and/or give it to another school - the business then gets their press too. It is like they donated twice. Win, win.

I've done our school's auction for several years now and have received donations I didn't think I could use. However, I do, as Tim Gunn would say, 'make it work'. I don't want any business to sour on my school because I traded a donation. The business gave the donation to my school, for whatever reason, and I figure out a way to use it. Sometimes I let it stand on its own, or I will pair it with something else, but I've never had something not go during the auction. Whether or not the winner uses the item is up to them, but the business has at least gotten some advertising.

Obviously the decision to trade a donation is up to you, but I would check with the business or at least put yourself in their shoes...
