@Ginko: Had a similar thing happen to me with a Cub Scout fundraiser. I literally trippled what had been done before and all I heard after the event was that the raffles too WAY TOO LONG! and that we wasted so much time calling winners. Go figure. Of course these are the same people that also complained when cost for programs during the year were too expensive. They just didn't get that the profits from the fundraiser all went back into programs for their kids!
Be proud of your efforts and let all of their negativity go!

Don't worry. They probably ran it or "helped" in previous years & you have accomplished more in a short amount of time than they probably did in all. It makes them feel inferior "as they should" if they are not willing to do the real "work" it takes to get donations to support our children.
They are just jealous & envious of you. Terrible thing that some people can't stop thinking about themselves & how they look. They want the attention for the little they do since as you say there is little participation from parents. This is a problem among many PTO's. Many parents feel that it is a secret society and you need to be "buddies" with the president, and some feel that their help is not wanted.
When I am done with this event (March 6th), I will also be giving additional input and suggestions to my PTA on the good the bad & the in between.
Just keep doing what you are doing & don't let their negativity bring you down. Remember what's the important, the kids. I will also post a concise list of my Yes's to share when we are all done.
Lisa, it depends upon the specific type of item.
For us, restuarants usually go or 80 to 100%. Everything else we can count on at least 50% because that's where we start the bidding. So as long as every item gets a bid, we know right off that bat that we will get a minimum of 50%. So if you have $5000 in items, we know we will bring in a minimum of $2500. Very few items are not bid on.

Ptrrabit, you have me laughing. Your committee sounds so much like mine. They quickly shot down the idea of front row seats and reserved parking spot too. When the idea of raffling an expensive item off or doing a 50/50 raffle, someone complained that is gambling. Got a kick out of that as many schools do a tricky tray which is technically gambling! Today one of them said to me in an annoyed tone "I still don't understand how you got all those items with your emails!" You are always on the computer!" Seriously. I guess I am supposed to feel like I have done something crazy and bad by getting auction items to raise money? Lock me up and throw away the key!! Why says things like that someone who has helped a great deal. Especially when you are having a problem getting parents to paricipate in any way???
Can I ask if anyone here has ever solicited too many items and people on your committee took offense? They are still need items by the way, so it's not like I have gotten everything myself or anything. I am just so confused by the reaction I am getting from them for getting lots of items in. We were not given a list of things to get or contacts to ask so I can't figure out what I have done wrong.
They have succeeded in alientating me. I stopped soliciting now and honeslty don't even feel like attending the event anymore.
