I just received about $300 worth of scrapbooking supplies from Stampin up!, I did'nt write their address down for some reason, but you can go on their website and get it. Stampin' Up! Global . Our silent auction is April 30th, so far we have close to 30 baskets. How many is a good amount to have? We are a 5th &6th grade public school with 1,100 students. So far our baskets range from $20 all the way up to $170.

Our school stopped doing Auctions because everyone in our area started doing them, we raised 2 years ago almost 13thousand dollars but last year only 6, so it was very hit or miss. For us in the NW (Portland area), and rainy day was best and we stopped combining it with a carnival because it was too distracting, and too much work to do both.

We did not have great luck with Corporate donations, but more local resturants and companies.

One of our favorite and biggest donors has actually been Stampin Up! They are great and actually send a huge box full of supplies, there criteria varies though, because this year we are only doing a Bingo, and they did not donate, but I would give it a try. My other favorite is local Hotel will often donate an overnight and dinner...so good luck.:)

God idea to hire one of the kids-- they like being on-line anyway, what better way to use their time and energy, then to help out their younger siblings and the school.

I hired my 13 yr-old to search the internet for addresses for about 20 possible donors in our area. We mailed letters and received family memberships to 3 local family venues. I'm still hoping for a few more positive responses.

We also sent about 10 letters to big national companies (ex: Staples, Toys R Us). Many came back undeliverable (not my daughter's fault - hard to find the exact contact info for these companies). American Girl has a formal doll donation program, but you must submit their special form 6 weeks in advance of your event. I'm hoping a doll to show up soon.

It's worth the cost of the stamp, but I don't hold out much hope for letters to the national contacts. I think your time is best spent contacting your local zoo, ballet, orchestra, science museum, historical museums, and the like.
