How about an "Act it out" Station?

Hi -- Depending on your set up there are a lot of options you can do to have fun.

I just love the idea above of doing a fill in the words to the story like Mad Libs for the kids and using funny little baseball stories. You can have an area perhaps with several of the activity pages to do. You can create your own free printables at many websites. You can make great looking crosswords and Word Search games. Here you can customize them to include the name of your school, the mascot, the teachers, and baseball words. There are also games like A to Z that are easy to design sheets for (kids try to come up with a word that starts with the letter of the alphabet that has to do with Baseball)

You could also have a silly baseball drills area. Here you can have baseball relays (like trying to race someone else in getting in and out of catchers gear), Throwing accuracy games, (through targets or into baskets etc..) and other such fun.

You can also do a cracker jacks pick -- with this you have boxes of cracker jacks out on the table and they pick the box. The number on the bottom correlates to a prize -- or you can do sorry you are not a winner and only have a few winners. (think duck pond game variations)

You can also have an area where there is a Baseball Bloopers video playing. They should have one at your local video store or library -- if not you can find one cheap on ebay or at amazon.

You can also have everyone sign a baseball -- then you can have a drawing for a winner or you can choose to give it to the gym teacher or librarian. Or you can have it a travel ball and use it for a prize that classrooms earn from week to week or month to month for goals like -- reading, turning in the most box tops, etc etc

These are a few ideas that I could offer but if you give more details on your set up we can proably give a better idea.

Oh -- and do use the bookmark station -- those are always soooo cute. You may even elect to do a variation from the traditional bookmarks and make something with a twist. The magnetic bookmarks are simple and quite nice so are the marble photo ones. Think same old thing with a different twist to make it your own and make it special.

One year for a book fair event we let families write their own fill-in-the-blank stories-the kind where it has part of a sentence and then asks you to put in a verb ending in -ing or an adjective, or the name of a furry animal, etc. I wrote the story based on the event with the opportunity for any child with a little creativity to end up with a really silly story. We also provided materials to make covers for their stories.

You could also provide materials for children to make their own bookmarks: card stock, ribbon, scraps of fabric, tissue/wrapping paper, glue, markers, etc.

Our next Family Reading Night in April. The theme is “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

The school Reading Recovery/Literacy Coordinator asked me to help come up with some ideas for some things we can do that night. This event will be for grades 4-6th.

We will have these basic stations that we always include in Family Reading Night:
snack station
read-aloud station
book give-away station

But, we need about 4 additional ideas for activities for the evening.
