"Corning" is a fall occurrence because, well, you need nice dry field corn. Basically, you shell it and then throw it at someone's house-preferably hitting windows so you wake up the home's occupants. At least that's how I understand the method.
WOW--- I've missed a lot. Hope all is well with you all. Now that the open house is over, the website is off and running, maybe I can be back here more.
Alright, LUV, explain corning. Being from Illinois I should've heard of this but, nope, no clue.....
Thanks for asking about my son. We implemented a good combination of suggestions you all gave me and it's working out:
9:30pm - Stop all high energy/stimulating activities.
10:00pm - Off to bed with no arguments.
10:30pm - Lights out.
6:30am - Up without issue.
7:10am - Out the door.
It's been almost two weeks and things are going fine. He's quiet in the mornings and I don't push it. The snottiness and arguing have stopped (on both sides!).
The best part is that he no longer uses "I'm tired" as an excuse for bad behaviour (which has also abated) because he controls when he goes to sleep.
And the bonus 1/2 hour from 10:00 to 10:30 means he's already taken three AR quizzes just two weeks into the school year.

Our anniversary was a couple weeks ago. My husband is a HUGE procrastinator and just couldn't make up his mind whether my mom should come over or if we'd drop the kids at her house or where we were going to go. Since I have become incredibly tired of handling EVERYTHING and having him always be late-I planned dinner at home. Then late in the afternoon he wants to know where we're going. I say nowhere because I got tired of asking him. We end up going out with the kids. Let's just say it wasn't a very romantic evening.
On to brighter things
Mailbox baseball-our neighborhood got hit 4 times in two years. Our mailbox sits two feet from an electric pole so they had some trouble doing much to ours, but it got weakened enough that the snowplow took it out with some heavy slush. We put in this massive steel box. If someone hits that with a baseball bat, they will remember it for the rest of their lives!
I've got another too: "corning" someone's house!
My, I'm chatty today!
Hey CC, is your son doing better with the morning routine?
Oh, life is finally settling into place here in Alabama. I'm finally saying things like "my grocery store", "my dry cleaners", and now, today, "my coffee shop"!! It's not Starbucks but it's yummy. It's one of those kitschy places that serves jumbo cinnamon rolls and spells everything wrong on purpose but the mocha, ooops, I mean moka is highly caffeinated.
Today we're taking the final leap and getting local numbers assigned to our cell phones. There's no turning back now.
The school has an Open House September 25 and my son has given me the OK to be a volunteer at his school. The PTO site says they need someone to manage the bulletin board. I can do that..... especially with dlf here to give me creative ideas!
