Wednesday is when I teach rel.ed. class and we keep getting called in for meetings after, which kills me because my husband works nights and I barely get to say goodbye. So tonight I ask if I can skip this meeting because it is the 3rd in a row that's not announced until after I get there and can't make arrangements for the child at home so hubby can leave. Anyway, she tells me I need to stay because we are discussing keeping the children entertained and not just doing book work. One of my students who was there b/c his mom is teacher said, "We aren't bored, she teaches us all kinds of stuff that isn't in the book and then we are quizzed at the end to see what we know and get candy when we get it right and it's so much fun no one wants to go home." Needless to say I got out of the meeting but got told I was going to have adults sit on my next class. It's nice to know that my kids enjoy my class but I don't doubt why my kids don't want to go when other teachers are just working out of the books. How boring is that? Anyway, it really made my night to have a kid say that about me.

D-It so amazing that you always seem to turn something bad into a moving, beneficial event for your school.

I have taken all kinds of stuff to sleep in the past. Benedryl does work but usually takes a while. I like ambien better than the over the counter stuff but I only take half a pill to start and another half if I'm not asleep 30 minutes later. It reduces the effects in the morning. They have some that are supposed to not be habit forming but anything that makes me sleep when I've never been a good sleeper in my life is not going to be something I want to go without. My doctor says my weight problems have a lot to do with my sleeping issues but also recommends only taking a sleep aid for 3-4 days at a time at max or you can have major withdrawl issues. I will admit that no matter how much sleep I have had, when my 3 year old says "Mommy, watch tv with me" I can fall asleep in a second between his snuggly little body and those horribly boring little kids shows.

CC-Keep a close eye on that teacher. If anything else comes up I would be in the curriculum coordinators office asking why my kid couldn't be exempt from a class he finished on his own in a week and put someplace he might "learn" something. It's so hard to watch them face these obstacles on their own.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Or a lame 7th grade computer teacher.... ;) I said the next time the teacher says the tower is the brains of a computer, ask him if the skull is the brains of a human being. He said he'd get in trouble if he says that out loud but he'll be smiling as he thinks about saying it out loud!

Anyone watch Beauty and the Geek? It's a ridiculous show with no redeeming social, cultural or educational qualities whatsoever but hubby and I are completely addicted. Isn't that sad? It's on tonight at 7(cst). I have a million and one things to do but I'll find a way to sit and fold laundry while this is on.

His computer teacher needs to take an A+ (computer basic and build your own class) the 'Computer Tower' holds the power source (300W, 400W, etc, the motherboard, cards, discdrives, etc. It IS NOT the brains of the computer- It is the skin, bones and vascular system not the Brains!!!!

Without the Processors it would just be a bunch of metal, solder and plastic. An expensive wirlgig that did absolutely nothing (without the CPU it would be alot like Billary and Kennedy)

D--that was beautiful! You made me cry.

The whole sleep thing must be in the air. I go to sleep and sleep really hard the first couple of hours and then wake up tossing and turning for the rest of the night. Then I am exhausted the next day. I fell asleep in the recliner last night when I was supposed to be studying. Hubby woke me up cause I was snoring too loud. :) On the plus side, I missed both Simon (American Idol) and George. :)

CC--that is kind f ironic about your son and the grades. i am taking an assessment class right now and we are in the middle of an online discussion about grades--how effective they are, what they mean, and is it an appropriate measure of learning (especially in terms of K and 1st) and is it really necessary.

Anyone baking tonight? We are eating at church and i hope the dessert is a good one.

CC--what a nice thing to say--I really can feel sometimes when I write that I'm sitting next to folks talking...it's a nice feeling and I see a lot of it on this thread.

RE: Sleeping Pills...be careful...they are all addictive to some extent. After my accident I took ambienne for a while to get turned around after the hospital and get a good nights sleep. I was on them for 2 weeks and it took me almost that long to get back off...I mean not sleeping at night at all until I was completely weened..I HATED it. I don't use them at all any more...I'd rather take a benedryl which knocks me out too.

Also with the sleeping pills, I did sleep but I was still groggy in the morning....like my eyes would SLAM shut and I could sleep for another 8 hours....
