Our school does a multicultural night, where student/teachers/administators represent different countries. We have the local food plus we do the dance for that particular country. It has a good turn out and we make at least $500. Everyone enjoys that evening and its from 6pm-8pm. We also have a drama club/choir and they put on shows twice a year, the funny thing at this event we only charge $1 and we make $400-$500.
This is more of a daytime event, but depending on your situation you could do it at night, too. We rent the swimming pool at one of our high schools on a Saturday afternoon for two hours. We do not charge admission - PTO pays for it - but we do require a parent or other adult to stay with the kids. We also sell concessions (popcorn, Capri Suns, pretzels, granola bars, etc.). We don't make money on it, but everyone loves it. Some of the schools in our town do a similar night in August at the public outdoor pool as a Back to School party. In both cases, the pools are not open to the public during the time we are there. Costs about $200.

Last year our PTO held a MultiCultural night and it was a huge success. Matter of fact other schools in the district have decided to have on too. We have a very diverse school and community and it was great. We had games and crafts from around the globe. Families from all different cultures prepared and shared some of their favorite dishes. We had Irish Dancers and Indian Dancers (Bollywood style!). Some women did Henna tattoos (huge hit with kids and Moms!). Sold Alex's lemonade and had a donation box for Heifer Organization. It really was a great way to spend time as a family and as a school! Our next festival is this March.
We have had a lot of success with our Family Nights. Bunco Night is a big hit. Every team of 2 brings a small prize worth $5 or less & all kids go home w/ a prize. We have also had Skate Night, Reading Night, Movie Night, Winter Family Festival Night, and we are planning an end of the year Picnic & Games Day that will be on a weekend.
