Hi!

As for decorations, hang up 45 records (or make some out of black construction paper).

Maybe have the chaperones on roller skates.

Just have fun with it. Good luck!

Not sure how to work it w/ a silent auction, but we did a theme basket raffle. Each class was given a theme and had to put a basket together. Soeme that we used were: Tea Party, Gift Wrap, Disney, Car Care, A day at the Beach and gardening. My son's class did the gardening one. My friend & I split a wheelbarrow another mom put it together w/ various gardening stuff. Another class did "Read with Me" and used a handpainted rocking chair as the basket & loaded it up w/books, a reading light & a snuggly blanket. We had a list of 30 or so ideas, or they could choose their own. The room moms could either collect items or $5 from each student to get the basket together. We did pretty well with it, but will do it a little differently next time. We did it in conjunction w/our silent auction. We sold tickets $1 each or 12/$10. The people wrote their name on the ticket & put it in the bucket of the basket they wanted. I think we could have sold the tickets for more & maybe even auctioned them to make more money on them because they turned out really cute & were more popular than a lot of our auction items. It was a first time doing this. This is how we learn...

Hope this helped a little. Let us know how it goes if you decide to do it! Good luck!

We've had a sock hop the past 2 years. We're a K-5. Families are invited. We have a back drop made with pink/black/white balloons and set up a digital camera for family pictures. We charge 1 for $5 or 2 for $7. We also had hot fudge sundaes the first year, YUMMY BUT MESSY, and rootbeer floats the next, YUMMY AND NOT SO MESSY. We also incorporate a silent auction along with this. Each class is given a theme and they are auctioned off during the dance. We raised $3500 the first year, on the baskets, and $5000 the next. We charge only for entry, not for refreshments. We have alot going on, but it helps to give the families something else to do besides just dancing.

WE had our first sock hop last year (this year disco) we had make your own sundaes, dads served up icecream , toppings we had sprinkles, hot fudge, cherries, whip cream, nuts, m &m's. It was great of course the dads were tored by nights end!
Our decorations were all black and pink, we had two huge balloon arches over the whole thing, black and pink table cloths, plastic records all over. The dj had contests and we handed out coupons to the winners for a ice cream at a local shop. He did a twist, hand jive, etc. We also arranged it so that it was dress up day that day during school hours that way the exciement started early! It was fun...now disco is a little harder!
