Usborne's Reach for the Stars program is a lot like the Discovery Toys program, where children collect sponsors to read. The children are asked to read 300 minutes over a 2-week period, and they are rewarded with high quality, educational books for their efforts. Don't let the word "educational" scare you off. Kids love these books.
The school/organization has the option to choose how much of the pledges collected will go back to the students. For example: our school decided that the students would receive 80% of what they collected and the classrooms would recieve 20%. My child collected $100 in pledges, so she received $80 in books (for her to keep) and her classroom received $20. It's a win-win situation for everybody.
There is a post partway up that tells you how to find a consultant who can answer your questions. I encourage you to give this program a try. It really got the kids at our school motivated to keep reading even after the program was over.
Kara- your 2-4-6 reading plan sounds like just the thing for my children's school. could you email me with the specifics? Thanks!

Am a new fundraising coordinator and am looking for non sales fundraising ideas. I like the read-a-thons, can someone send me some ideas on forms that would go out with these?
Thanks!
