I like the idea for the BOO HOO breakfast for parents who work ...
but isn't the idea to connect the school & family.... Parents need to make the effort to take the time to attend the muffins w/ moms w/ their child, what is the point if you hand them a donut as they drive off...
At our school anyways we would have tons of takers just because they are cheap & want a free donut!! I would charge $1.00....
I think that sounds like a great idea! We have parapros that help open doors for our children when they are dropped off, but I am sure they would welcome the help of a parent, and if that parent was giving food?? WOW!! We are still in the decision making stages of our drive-thru breakfast. We're not charging for the first one, and we'll see if it even takes off. Its hard at our school, since most of the drop-off parents are also all our PTO volunteers!!
We've done a Boo-Hoo breakfast for the last 2 years but I was thinking of offering up the idea of having someone out on the drive offering a muffin to those parents who can't stay for the breakfast. I thought they could carry a basket on their arm and open the car doors to help the kids get out while they offered the parent a treat. Has anyone tried this?
Don't charge - you'll surprise more parents that way - They always think there is some underlying reason why you're GIVING something away.
What about Rain?
Maybe have small coffee's (with lids) and a donut wrapped in a paper sleeves. Many parents I know actually drink Mountain Dew (ugh!) for their caffiene (no wonder diabetes is at a record high) - I digress...
To keep the line moving, you'll have to work FAST and have plenty of volunteers in the food chain.
Good luck and please report what you end up doing.
We are just beginning to plan new ideas for our school year, and one thing that came up was a possible "breakfast" for the parents after they drop their children off. The idea was pretty basic.....we have a long front driveway, and at the end is a small semi-circle that is rarely used. We thought we could set up there with fresh coffee and donuts from say..7:15-7:45 and parents could drive through, and pick up breakfast on their way out. We only want to charge $1.00 a car...its not about profit, its about connecting with our parents better....
What do you think? Should we charge at all? Would you as a parent stop?
