I have attended events both at school and at a movie theater as a FUN night I perfer the school.
When weather permits we show the movies outside (a parent loans us all the equipment from their church). If needed we use the multi-purpose room (chairs in the back half and blanket space in the front half).
Having the events at school makes for a less pleasurable viewing experience but a much more fun enviroment. We charge $1.00 for admittance (so we know how many people are coming) and then sell popcorn, candy, water, lemonade, and such at reasonable prices.
Everyone has a great time and the kids especially enjoy it.
I have a question for you, are movie nights more successful holding them in a school or renting out a local theater?
We've never done it at the school but we have rented out a theatre and sold the tickets at a cheap price(just to cover the cost of the theatre). We schedule it for days we have off(such as MLK day, Pres. day, etc.)We always have a sold out crowd and wonder if we would have the same holding it in our school?
hmmm...I think I would prefer some of the older Disney movie. Especially since many kids may have never seen some of them and many adults may not have seen them in a long time.
Movies like...Herbie the Love Bug, Treasure Island, Bednobs & Broomsticks, Swiss Family Robinson, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, etc...
I think Willy Wonka is always a favorite of kids and parents alike.
We are definately hosting a series of family movie nights this fall through our PTO. I have found some wonderful ideas on holding the event itself, but what about the films.
I am a huge movie buff and have my own ideas which I'll post later. I'd like to find out what 5 films would tempt you and your family to get out of the house for the night.
New, old, treasured classic, or forgotten gem, show me what you've got!
