Thanks for the many suggestion on movie night films. We have had our greatest sucess with films that are not so familiar with younger children, but parents remember fondly.

Here's may top 5

-- The Dark Crystal "Jim Henson Productions"
-- Bugsy Malone "All child cast w/Jodie Foster & Scott Baio"
-- An American Tail "Everyone remembers this one"
-- Cats Don't Dance "Great kids film, Gean Kelly Style"
-- The Little Rascals "surprising how many kids have never heard of them"

All of these are available on VHS, some are on DVD. Check them out at www.imdb.com

Thanks Again

The most popular ones voted on at our school this spring were:
- Shrek
- Finding Nemo
- ET
- Wizard of Oz
- Willie Wonka

We did Finding Nemo even though Shrek came in 1st (staff was concerned with some of the adult language/humor. ET and Finding Nemo were amost split.

I am pretty picky about what my kids watch. If it is rated over G there is some serious investigating on my part before I let them watch.

My kids really like the Bud movies, the one about the dog playing sports. They LOVE Spy Kids and Land Before Time. I am partial to movies that have books. We like to read the books and compare.

Old Yeller
Where the Red Fern Grows
Davy Crockett
Shiloh
Homeward Bound

Did I mention we are rednecks? I have two animal loving boys.

Last fall, we timed our first-ever movie night with the video release of Finding Nemo. Even though it had recently been in the theaters, most kids hadn't seen it on video yet. We had our event in the cafeteria on folding chairs - kids had to sit with their parents/adults, not on the floor. It sounded more comfie to sit on the floor on blankets, but the principal was afraid the kids would get restless to the point of rowdy.

I agree with Serendipity re: older Disney movies, but Willy Wonka has always given me the heeby-geebies and stay away from Pete's Dragon...a real snooze! You could even show some of the older "new" Disney that younger kids might not have seen like Mulan, Bugs Life, Pocahontas, or even Toy Story. Also, George of the Jungle, Back to the Future, and A Knight's Tale(for middle schoolers).

Search this forum. I remember someone doing themed-movie nights that were really neat! I'd love to hear if you come up with some interesting ideas...

Shred - everything green-themed food, decorations, drinks, etc....
