To answer questions ....it took about 35 volunteers, i made sure each station had at least two volunteers, the spin art we had four machines going. Sand art we ahd three volunteers at, sine they were busy stations. We had mostly parents with two high school kids and some staff. We also did not charge for this night, the total night cost us about 853.00 although we have ALOt of supplies left over for future use so I see us as getting more than one event out of it. We had about 150-160 kids out of a school of 487 BUT for the first year it was a nice surprise!!Next up..sock hop....

Sorry for the confusion.........we do not do this as a fundraiser. It is a fun activity that we do for the kids so they have items to use as gifts thru the holidays.

Something to think about regarding volunteers, high schoool students need communtity service activites on aps. for college. Talk to the Pep Squad or Student Council to get the extra help you need. And hey, there's always your local service groups ;) ....okay, I want our service group to do this for a school they sponsor. It wounldn't be a fund raiser (Tilte 1 school with 100% free lunch program) BUT I love the idea of getting kids to do something fun at school!...you know for a change ;)

We do a Kid's Craft Day usually the first Sat in Dec. The parents are welcome to stay but it is not mandatory. We do 8 crafts. We try to find a volunteer to run each station and make sure they have a helper. We do 2 sessions - morning 9 - 11:30 and afternoon 1 - 3:30. We use some crafts from Oriental Trading and then come up with some of our own. If you do them yourselves it takes a lot more work to get the supplies purchased and stored for that many crafts. We have a volunteer problem at our school so are looking for ways to make this event easier. I guess we need to make the parents stay............

I was brainstorming the other day for events I think might draw families to the school and this idea was one. I thought of recommending it for the late November/early December time frame so kids could make items to give as gifts. We already do a craft making event during the school day, but because of the number of students and the time constraints we can only do two items per child. It would also give us an opportunity to use up leftover Craft Days supplies.

Did it require a lot of volunteer help or did the parents help their own children?

Figured I would share with you about our First Ever family Craft Night we had last Thursday. It was such a great night and HUGE success. We had over 150 kids come through with their parents. If anyone has thought about doing this event i urge you to, the laughter and smiles said it all. We had 12 craft stations and for snack we had decorate your own cupcake. The crafts we had were a bumblebee fan, boondoogle, sand art, bookmarks, windsocks, beaded crafts, spin art, foam door knob decoration , a picture frame, paper hats, animal magnets. With all the talk that has been centered around volunteering and involvement at our school lately it was so nice to do a FUN thing! Next up our family sock hop in April.Give it a try...You will be glad you did...advertising is the key!!!
