Family Fun Night

Our school is planning a Family Fun Night in April, thanks to all the great ideas that I got from this site . We will be serving pasta, playing the "Family Feud" game and raffling off a few baskets. We are getting the whole school involed in this game as the drama club is building the set, the art department is decorating the set and the library is getting the kids to answer the survey questions.

My question is would it be "tacky" to ask families to donate "cash" instead of items for the baket raffle. We had a baket raffle last year and very few families participated. We are a public charter school with 840 students, k-11th grade and serve 15 school disticts. My thought was to ask families to donate to a basket OR chip in $5 and allow the PTO to buy the raffle items. We would be able to puchase bigger prizes such as DVD players.
Any thougts would be appreciated.
