What about having a free/low cost community event? A carnival type event where you invite all families in your community would give people a chance to see the school and meet some of the great families who already go there. Make sure you have a PTO "booth" where parents can pick up info and talk with an enthusiastic PTO member. Have lots of pictures and posters touting what your group has done in the school too. To promote the school as a whole, continue that idea(pictures with info) throughout the area where the event is held. Show the kids working in the classroom, playing together, etc. If your principal is comfortable with it, you can even provide statistical info on how the school has improved. You want to give people an opportunity to come in to your building and be wowed by what is going on there!
I am the PTO president of a small school that has had some hiccups the last few years. We are in danger of closing. Thanks to our new principal she has made a turn around for the better, academically and teacher wise. However, it is a slow go for new students. We have renewed interest in our school but we need to get the word out immediately. We have adds in the local newspaper and we have sent out postcards to our local community. What else can we as a PTO do? Thanks Joe.
