good point about the dog.
doesnt your pricnipal attend your meetings? our always does.
a principal is the one who should ban the dog from entering school grounds. ifthe principal doesnt enforce thier own rules, they are doing a bad job to say the least.
if hte principal doesnt attend meetings, whether they are held daytime or evenings, let her know a dog has been coming onto the grounds, and maybe she will take charge and make sure it doesnt happen. our school has a NO DOG sign on every gate. along with other prohibitions for public schools.
i guess next time that woman comes with her dog, you have the right to ask her to remove her pet, maybe she wont come back. try it.
You can't have thin skin and be involved with the PTO. You will encounter all kinds and not like everyone.
Agree with everyone else that someone needs to set her straight. The incidents outside of school is a matter for the police or social services; not the PTO. It does, however, given an indication of her judgement (or lack thereof) and priorities.
But how she dresses to meetings can be addressed as it can make others feel uncomfortable. Having a dog with her is a definite rule breaker. No animals should be brought in to the school without permission from the nurse. Children have allergies to pet dander and hair/fur which could be set off the next day should a child be in that vacinity.
Either you have to speak up or ask the Executive Board to speak up. Let them know that you and others are so uncomfortable with her and her actions that they question whether they want to be involved. Hearing that, a good PTO board will take care of it since volunteers are hard to find. It doesn't sound like they would be missing out on too much from that mother anyway.
Thanks everyone! I'm totally new at grade-school parenting and new at this school. I appreciate everyone's perspective!
This particular mommy is easy to ignore, although she demands attention everywhere she goes. In fact, the rest of the PTO board ignores her. I think she uses the PTO for social contact (she's a recent divorcee), so it's too bad she's so abrasive.
I'll try to get the few other stay-at-home moms to attend future meetings with me, which should balance out the whole dynamic.
well i just had to laugh. if our parents knew what the board members did in private, no one would come to meetings anymore.
seriously, dress and accessories and such, not a reason to stay away. loud mouth, well if its in appropraite the meeting leader should reign them in or the leader is not doing his/her job of leading the meeting.
kid out of control? not your problem. dont judge people. if the kid disrupts the meeting, the leader of the meeting needs to find a solution or the leader isnt doing their job.
who doestn have objectionalble people and styles of dress at their meeting? we all do. public or private school, doesnt matter. objectionalbe people are part of life, if one keeps you away from your kids school parent meetings, what msg does that send your kid?
I have to agree with both OntheGoPTO and pals. It is really sad to hear that a parent who finally decided to attend a PTO meeting for the first time is so readily giving up. I think you should dig deep and realize that your child is worth dealing with this woman. I agree, from what you have explained, that the President needs to have a discussion with her, especially regarding the no animals at school and possibly the dress code, but the Pres. should be able to keep comtrol of the meeting, even in the face of a very opinionated member. What happens outside of school should stay there, as long as it doesn't find it's way into the school. If she showed up to a PTO meeting drunk, then that would be one thing.
I truly hope that you don't just give up on one of the most important things that you can ever do for your child, simply because of one person!
