We will be thanking them, our treasurer is getting a little thank you note with a small gift and we also put out a monthly newsletter and in our final one we have set an area in it where we thank our treasurer and ex-pres for their years of dedication. That goes without saying, we absolutely want to recognize the contribuations they have made. As angry and upset as this has made us we realize that they do need to be thanked.
Thank you for all for your help and for being my sounding board on this whole situation, you've been great. It has been a huge learning lesson for us!
Excellent news, me. Thanks for letting us know how things are progressing for you and your team. And kudos to your principal for throwing much needed support your way!

wow.. through all this, the one that stands out as the troublemaker is that ex-Pres.. who was she to go running to the Principal? bad bad bad. I agree with dlf, though. get a letter out there to parents and publically thank the former treasurer and Pres for all their work.. I have said this a lot on these boards.. but my motto has always been that nothing diffuses anger better than KINDNESS and professionalism.. in the end, YOU come out the winner.. and they come out as the small minded gossips that they are! Go kill'em with kindness
me--is there a way now that you can calm the waters with a note of some sort to the old board telling them despite the difficulties in the transition your board wants to thank them for the work they've accomplished on behalf of the children over the past ____ years. No group stands alone and can only move from the place the last group left...
May be a way to calm the waters and the rumors and start to heal some wounds.
Hey all! Heres the update...WE GOT THE CHECKBOOK!!!!!!!!!!
Treasurer came to the school quite irate because of how SHE was being talked about! (fyi...we have discussed this with NO ONE other than between ourselves and principal) But I suppose she may have thought to do it like this would give her the excuse to hand it over and save face....whatever! So a preliminary look at the book says that its ok, but we are having a full sit down and look at it early next week.
Theres some more garbage being said about us at the school but fortunately we are able to discredit whats being said.
Its been ugly, more stuff is probably going to be attempted, but as long as we continue to do the right thing we're not too worried.
Thank you all again for your support.
I am glad that your Principal has done the correct thing and supported his new PTO leadership. Anything else would have been wrong on his part. Here's some other questions/avenues...
When was the last time the books were audited. Though you do not presently have Bylaws as the incoming President you are in your right to have the books audited, possibly even professionally. In addition you can push to get your name(s) put on the account. This would definitely help facilitate things.
One of the points that I have a problem with is your ex-President. With the way she responded it was very obvious that she was in there talking with the Principal about this issue and relaying to him all of the things that the Treasurer told her. This was innappropriate on her part. If I was the Principal this would have bothered me. Is she an ILA? I would tell the teachers that they can go ahead and cash the checks, as they were issues by the present Treasurer and should be accounted for. Next you need to settle this quickly, with your Principal's support. If you have to you may need to bring up legal ramifications, though with your Principal's support hopefully things will now work out.
