What a load off your shoulders. Kudos to you for sticking it out and making sure the right thing was done for your school and the kids. Now, on to the fun stuff!
Hello!
Just a quick update, the checkbook has balanced out...nothing out of the ordinary. An audit by an accountant parent not involved in anyway in the drama was done.
****WHEW****
It is such a relief! Thanks again for all your support and wonderful suggestions. We are implementing many of them. Thanks Tim for letting PTO today be the bad guy if necessary! :}
ONE MORE WEEK ONE MORE WEEK ONE MORE WEEK!!!

You can tell you new treasurer you all have to abide by these rules because you heard about it from PTOToday. Blaming to big impersonal PTO Today authority takes the heat off you personally so you don't look like the heavy.
Critter, Thanks for the great suggestions! This has been such a learning experience, we really feel we're building this thing from the ground up, and in a way we are. There hadn't been rules or by-laws in many years, so the first thing we did was draw up our by-laws and a code of conduct for our group. It is very basic but clear at this point but it leaves room for growth since at this moment our board is very small, but by the looks of things is going to grow. Our goal it to have our PTO running in such a way that other parents will want to run for the board and they can be confident that when they take it over its not a mess.
I know I keep saying thank you, but honestly...THANK YOU!!
It has been such a relief to have this forum to turn to during this, like RobinD said, its nice to know that the challenges we face are often the same!
First, to Tskreczmer, I can understand how someone who would not like the " touchy feely stuff".. My guess is that you work in a professional environment where that would not be tolerated, I agree, she probably would have gotten fired. I think all of us on these boards have often wished we could just "fire" someone. !
BUT, I think the GREATEST challenge we as PTO Exec Boards all have is that we manage volunteers, and we CAN'T fire them. In the working world, the easy way out is to just dispose of the baggage, and I think what makes all these PTO's so unique is that we face personal challenges that are far more difficult than in our real life jobs.
Those volunteers who are difficult have the SAME emotional connection to the situation as we do, and it's the most powerful emotion and instinct of all- that of loving and caring for our children.
I enjoy reading threads such as this because it makes me realize we all face the same challenges, and we all speak to one another in objective and respectful ways. It's the only place we can go where you KNOW people are nodding their heads in agreement of what you say.
I commend Me n Rory for the way they worked through this challenging situation. Her team knew what was best for the school, and did their best to make a not-so-great situation into a good one.
