Changing PTO rules 2 weeks before the election

17 years 7 months ago #131254 by babies2
Two women trying to singlehandedly destroy years of hard work and volunteerism in a school that has been cohesive and supportive of the children is incomprehensible. The moms that are part of the board are volunteers we need to remember. Creating a hostile environment for the parents, children, principal, and superintendent is not the way to be supportive or effect change. These women should know that they are being labled hostile and beligerent throughout the school district. Parents need to work together or this will be the downfall of pto in this district. Work together and drop the nonsense

ac·cu·sa·tion (a ky -za sh en) n.

1. An act of accusing or the state of being accused.
2. A charge of wrongdoing that is made against a person or other party.

Perfectly legal under Parents School Rights, State and US Constitution

Making an accusation while on a fact finding mission (perception is reality) is Legal if the person isnt purposely slandering or libeling a person to damage reputation

As for being anonymous or not (that's a personal choice) my PTA can find any and all things I post here (if its about them and they dont like/agree too bad- Its not a popularity contest)

I agree with the comments re: accusations and inviduals that make them. I was using this forum to merely state that I am on a fact finding mission and wonder why the sudden changes to the by-laws. I have not accused anyone rather I'm doing all I can to understand.

It is not my intention to create problems, but I do feel it is my right as a parent to ask questions. I'm frustrated that I ask, but no one responds with concrete facts.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond.

Before you make accusations, you need to have some evidence that will hold up under scrutiny. Who even likes a person that make the accusations.

What if the executive board read this and knew who wrote it? If you were them, how would you react.

As Stephen Covey says in the Seven Habit of a Highly Effective Person, "Seek first to understand" and "Make deposits in their emotional bank account".

For me, this past year has been an effort in building a relationships with the leaders at my child's school so we can gain ccoperation.

I can't tell all of you how helpful your comments and suggestions have been. We have contacted school board members, former Pres. of Exec. PTO board, superintendent and principal. The former Exec. board pres said this is unethical, illegal, and that she is going to the superintendent and school PTO board pres. to advise them of this (apparently, this woman almost single handedly wrote the by laws).
But, another outraged mom talked with the principal this evening and he said he has the original by laws and they state that the exec. PTO board has the authority to change by laws. When told the timing of all of this appears very suspect, he said "I agree the timing is unfortunate."

We are now wondering what they are trying to hide? Is someone stealing money? I feel our principal doesn't want changes for some reason.

UGH!!!

I, too, am a big fan of working within a system to help create positive change. As a three year president myself, it was very frustrating to have new members come in and want to completely rework the system without any respect or appreciation for our history and why the system is what it is. It isn't unreasonable to expect them to put in some time and work their way up.

In cleeta02's situation, though, that seems impossible. If the leaders change rules on a whim they can effectively shut out any new folks trying to work into the group. Based on cleeta's post here and several others, this group appears to be running amok with no accountability and nobody challenging them to play fair.

When leaders are unwilling to follow their own rules or routinely change the rules to fit their needs, I can only see one recourse. That is to go over their heads and demand some accountability.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."
