I'll tell you what is so unfortunate, starting to accuse this PTO of something that they most certainly have not done! Just because this is a school activity doesn't mean you can't be sued for slander. I'd be very careful if I were you! You are not playing very fairly! This PTO has worked very hard to get it where it is. Just because you are not getting your way, doesn't give you the right to put words in their mouth or accuse them of unjustly actions. Give it a rest and let's see what the outcome is!

The people from whom cheetah needs the information are more likely to be cooperative if they have a trusted relationship with cheetah. This is difficult and takes time to develop.
This part is quite irrelevant IF ANY member asks questions, requests information, requests bylaws an above board exec board would say "When can I get those to you, yesterday, OK here ya go"
Trusted relationship - BS the exec board is trusted to run things correctly - not giving info promptly is not the way to build trust with the people they ARE beholden too.
This PTO would be history if this happened in my neighborhood

My post was seeking that in the end, after all is said and done, that all could still be friends and work together for the good of the school.
I have seen cases where people get upset and push hard and fast. they sometimes get labelled behind their back, even though this is wrong.
The last thing I want to see is for cheetah to get hurt.
From cheetahs post after my post it seems that cheetah is already aware of this.
There is not a parent on earth who would seek to destroy the hard work of a dedicated group of PTO officers. Everyone understands the pressures of being a volunteer in such an organization. It is absolutely not personal. What is incomprehensible, in this case, is the defensiveness and stonewalling that has occured when trying to get a copy of the bylaws that has raised red flags all over the place. How and when did the restrictions on running and voting occur? When the PTO asked for people to run for office, there were no restrictions on who could run. Why now? The general PTO membership has not been informed of any plans to revise the bylaws and the revised bylaws have not been presented to the general membership. Why? Normally, changing bylaws that have been in effect since 1994 would take some time to accomplish and include input from the general membership. How did this happen between April 3 and April 14? Normally, changes made to PTO bylaws would not take effect until the next year. No copy of past or current bylaws were available in any office of the school district and no one was making them available when asked for. This alone is what caused the concern.

Sitting idly by as the same o' same o' happens is not
Dont know the whole story but the 'you should be anonymous and /or not speak up and go along with whats done' just dont fly in the realm of Democracy (especially if bylaws ARENT being followed, members arent being educated/informed of the process/ or members arent voting on changes)
Anyone whom disagrees with another, thinks something is inappropriate, is fishy/ shady, etc IS guaranteed to be able to speak up - ie look under 1st Amendment of those 200 yr old piece of papers called the US Constitution and Declaration of Independance
