Below outlines the activities for the whole week. We also asked the Teachers to display “wish trees†(they were beautifully decorated). These trees contained classroom and personal “wishes†and we asked the parents to pick items from the tree and present to the Teachers. The wish tree gifts were actually distributed throughout the whole week since some parents forgot. The certificates we created on the computer and presented them with Angel figurines. We invited all staff to participate in the breakfast but only teachers for the rest of the activities. We encouraged the parents to participate/visit as many activities as possible.
This year we will do breakfast and lunch, possibly a Teachers Wall of Fame, and try to help each class decorate a t-shirt for their teachers (handprints or names or stamps).
Monday, May 1st: Continental Breakfast
Tuesday, May 2nd: Giving of Wish Tree gifts (we asked the Teachers to display “wish treesâ€. These trees contain classroom and personal “wishes†and asked the parents, to pick items from the tree and present your Teachers
Wednesday, May 3rd: Presentation of Appreciation Certificates during Chapel
Thursday, May 4th: National Day of Prayer - Prayer circle of Teachers, Staff, and parents
Friday, May 5th: Lunch at Golden Corral from 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m.
We also include all staff in our TAW event. Without the associates, janitors, secretaries, etc. the school would be in chaos and the teachers would be really stressed out!
Don't forget to include your parents in the events. You can save some money by asking for parents to donate items. When we do our breakfast and lunches, we come up with a menu then coordinate with our head room parents to find volunteers to supply the items. The parents always respond very well to this and our PTO usually ends up having to spend only around $50. Great if you're on a tight budget!
OK next question--Do you just do for teachers or do you do for everyone?
This was brought up at our meeting last night- everyone wants to do this for everyone- I think we should do for just the teachers' it is "Teacher Appreciation Week" What do you guys think?
Buy them mugs or coffee cups from the dollar store and fill them with candy or chalk, tea bags, ink pens, granola bars, etc. Wrap them in cellophane so they look really nice. I bought inexpensive tablets for the teachers from Positive Promotions. We will have assorted breakfast items all week, then we are having a luau luncheon on Wednesday, and they will get a small gift. I am also going to buy a piece of posterboard for each classroom and have the children make a poster or giant card for their teacher. I also bought decorations from Positive Promotions and beautiful vases that I will fill with fresh flowers for the whole week. The vases have a saying on them - "Thanks for Helping Students Bloom." The vases will go in the lounge. I would like to see if someone can come and do chair massages or have a nail technician come to give manicures. Hope this helps!
