Ask the kids!!! Either give them a form to submit ideas or make a kind of ballot for them to choose the options you have available. We let our students pick the theme for our carnival each year-they love it.
Some parents at our school created and offered an afterschool program (6 weeks) that taught kids in grades 4-8 how to start their own businesses. At the end of the 6 weeks, there was a Marketplace where the kids actually got to set up a table and sell their products! It was really amazing. The kids loved coming up with an idea, developing a product, figuring out how to market it and sell it -- and of course, making money! I understand the parents who taught it have put together a "kit" so other schools can do it. I highly recommend it. It is called TREP$ and the website is www.trepsed.com.
How about a board game night? A fun idea would be to get about 10 twister boards and tape them all together, and have a GIANT twister game in your Gym.. YOu could also have a karoake station, and maybe a few other stations... Milton Bradley may even donate the Twister boards ( or whoever makes it)
Thanks! I'd love to do a bingo night but apparently that "too close to gambling" and not approved by our school board. Ay carumba.
The family dance sounds good, most parents don't want a regular dance for the 5th graders, and I agree with that.. I wonder if we could pull off a family dance. Do you have any details you could share with me about that?
How about a dance night with either a dk or karokee, we always have a family dance night and the kids love it. Last night we had our Hoe down and the older kids really get into it.
