Another route to go is to talk to people locally. MANY farms, police depts, etc.. will offer free or small donation ( $100) assemblies. We have had a women who comes for the day who teaches kids how to card and spin wool.. that is so cool.. the technology minded kids are just in awe at the " old fashioned ways"... Police depts do work-dog demos.. that's always really cool. and the added bonus is that they will talk about a safety issue of your choice ( stranger danger, drugs or whatever).....

Another great thing we have had is a " wheelchair basketball team" come play with our kids.. they bring extra wheelchairs, and talk to kids about disabilities.. then when the kids play in the chairs, they realize how tough it is, and how the handicapped folsk in the chairs are better than they are at wheelchair basketball. It's a great dynamic for them to see that we all have different abilities.. and disabilities!

Here is a link by state of Assembly providers. I do not know many of them. But it gives you an idea of what different ones have to offer.

Also, speak with your other area schools (By area, I mean schools within an hours drive) and ask them if they have any assemblies set up and if they do..can you get the providers phone number, sometimes you can get a very cheap rate for an assembly if they are already in the area. I am talking hundreds off their price!
